Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 28: The Unicef has decided to support Kerala's efforts for implementing child's rights and its initiatives on creating awareness among the people on AIDS. Unicef india representative Maria Calivis told reporters here today that the Organisation was concerned over reports that schools in the state were refusing to admit HIV-affected kids. "We will support the government steps towards reducing the stigma and discrimination against aids victims," she said. Kerala, which had already become a pioneer in many fields including literacy drive, could emerge as a role model in this area also, she said. Calivis, here on a two-day visit, said she appreciated the initiatives taken up under ‘Kudumbasthree' (housewife) scheme and the state poverty eradication mission. In the next five years, Unicef would support the state in addressing quality issues in elementary education and child rights programming. Calivis said she visited Venganur panchayat in the district and interacted with members of ‘Kudumbasthree' groups and panchayat members in the last two days.
