Beijing, Nov 16: At least nine people were killed and 18 others seriously injured in explosions at two different fireworks factories in south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, an official report said today. The first explosion occurred yesterday in a fireworks workshop in Gongguan town of Beihai city in which four people were killed and five injured.
According to local police, the explosion took place at an illegal fireworks workshop whose owner is now at large.
In another accident, five people were killed and 13 seriously injured last night at a place 10 km away from Gongguan town, Xinhua news agency reported.
It happened at Guangxi's largest fireworks enterprise, where a blast in September had killed seven people.
All the injured in the two explosions were hospitalised and doctors said they were in a critical condition.
The causes of the blasts are still under investigation and local government officials have rushed to the sites to guide rescuing work.
