Washington, Nov 07: The Pentagon has announced that US troop strength in Iraq will be reduced from the current 132,000 to 105,000 by next May.
Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, however, told
reporters that it is not the number of US troops that should
be looked at but the overall strength of American troops,
troops provided by other nations and security forces,
including Iraqis whose strength is being increased.
Since the summer, the overall number of US troops in
Iraq has already declined by 30,000. There are now 60,400
Iraqi policemen on the job.
