Khosla said the colour, vibrancy and energy of one the oldest inhabited cities in the world have attracted them for quite some time and so they finally decided to work on a line dedicated to Varanasi, which they will showcase on the opening day of the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week on August 7.

The designer duo, whose celebrity clientele includes Bachchan family, Dimple Kapadia, British actress Judi Dench, will present a line which is designed to transport the audience to the ghats on the night of a full moon.

"Our collection is called 'Varanasi' and inspired by the city. The set recreates the landscape of Varanasi with the banks, the ghats. The wonderful processions and architecture is part of the collection. We are introducing six new sections during the show," Khosla told PTI.

The collections is designed to showcase the rich legacy of silks, brocades, gold and silver thread work, carpet weaving that the city is renowned for.

"These traditional fabrics and motifs will find new expression through our Couture. So, it's all zardosi, all colour, it's all about bridal. We start with beiges and go into bright reds, pinks blended with jewelled tones," he said.

The palette too will reflect the different moods and unique spirit of the city. It begins from pristine whites and moves to rainbow colours like yellows, saffron and oranges and vermilion.

"The whole concept of the show is that it starts in the daytime and ends at the night. In the middle, we have a collection called 'Vrindavan' which is inspired by Krishna 'Raas Leela'. We have used Banarasi brocade, nets, embroidery, zardosi. Despite its traditional inspiration, the collection is young, colourful with a dash of sexy," Khosla said.

The designer duo said they have been planning this collection for almost a year now and through this they want to re-visit Varanasi, where they have not been to for quite some time.

Talking about the music for the show, Khosla said it is not traditional music of Varanasi but rather is an eclectic mix of old and new sounds.

"We are playing old music and it is not typical Varanasi sounds. It is a grand, fun show and after a long time we are doing a show which is going to be so glamourous."
