Bangalore, May 28: Actress Shilpa Shetty has flayed a section of the media for dubbing her parents in an alleged extortion case as 'villains of the piece' and said she would clarify on the episode shortly.
Shilpa, whose parents Surendra and Sunanda are under a
cloud over the charge of using underworld to recover modelling
dues of their daughter from a Surat-based saree manufacturer,
alleged here today the media was "victimising" the family.
The actress, who is in the city for a movie shoot, poured her heart out in a brief interaction with the media. She was, however, not willing to say anything on TV camera, pointing out that the matter was sub-judice and hence she would not like to make any comments.
But Shilpa gave vent to her feelings and targeted a section of the media, adding, she was upset and deeply hurt. The actress said she would issue a statement to the press on the episode soon.
Expressing displeasure over media glare on her parents, she said they are law-abiding citizens and should be left alone and their privacy need to be respected. It was a traumatic time for her, she said.
Surat police last week claimed "clinching evidence" against Shilpa's parents. The excerpts of telephonic talks purportedly between her parents and the underworld allegedly revealed that they used the latter to recover the dues, Surat police claimed.
Shilpa's parents have, through their lawyer, denied that the family had any connection with the underworld.
