New Delhi, Aug 02: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has agreed to formally invite suggestions of "additions or subtractions" over its consultation paper on unified licencing regime from various stakeholders, on Monday. This move follows pressure from various service providers.
Trai chairman Pradip Baijal said, "I have said that we will consider additions and subtractions...any variation proposed on Unified Licence. The industry was keen that we say it in writing, so we will."
He said this would be circulated officially to the industry on Monday. Last month, Trai had said its consultation process on unified licence will be "open to suggestions" including encompassing long distance services, although the consultation paper will not be altered.
Baijal's comments come in the backdrop of recent demands of the cellular operators that the definition of Unified Licence was "narrow".
In a letter to Trai recently, Cellular Operators' Association of India had expressed surprise that consultation paper on "so called unified licence uses the narrowest possible definition covering only cellular mobile and basic services." Bureau Report
