Mumbai, Nov 20: US investors today evinced interest in development of the Indian financial sector and said that achievements of the robust securities market here should be highlighted for more investment inflows. "US investors are interested in contributing to the development of the financial market here and will like to present a perspective to the Indian policy makers," US-India Business Council (USIBC) chairman Rajat Gupta told reporters here.
The USIBC is in process of dialogue with the various key players of the Indian industry and in few months would prepare a perspective for furthering the Indian industry and place it before the policy makers.
He said there were many issues including development of new markets, securitisation, derivatives trading, capital gains, limits of capital investment and ownership which needed to be looked into.
The progress made in the Indian securities market and capabilities such as risk management needed to be highlighted, he said, adding "Indian securities market is as good as any market at the risk management and operational level."
Despite the Enron debacle, the perception about the Indian industry was improving as was evident from the investment inflows, he said, adding that the foreign direct investment depended on the sector to sector and now the country along with China was looked as an emerging opportunity.
There was a lot of scope for enhancing the Indo-US ties in the engineering goods including the automotive parts, aerospace, defence, biotech and IT, he said.
