Mumbai, Nov 12: The Mumbai High Court today asked Special Investigating Team probing the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam to go into the allegations of suspended Assistant
Commissioner of Police M C Mulani and police inspector Prakash Deshmukh shielding prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi and even consider arresting the duo if there was evidence against them.
Pending a departmental inquiry, both have already been suspended from service for alleged lopsided probe in the multi-crore stamp paper racket case.
Hearing a bunch of public interest litigations (PILs) filed by Anna Hazare and others, chief Justice C K Thakker and Justice Abhay Oka directed the sit to probe the allegations against these two officers and arrest them if there was evidence against them. The PILs alleged lopsided investigations and prayed for a CBI inquiry and making public the recommendations of Subhodh Jaiswal committee which had probed the matter.
The court had earlier asked the state government to file an affidavit in reply to allegations of DIG, SRPF, S M Mushrif that Telgi had paid huge amount as bribe to cops for not arresting his wife, daughter and brother in the case.
Mushrif has alleged in an affidavit that he had been victimised for raising his voice against corruption prevailing in the system. Mushrif said during the probe, Telgi had told him that inspector Prakash Deshmukh and ACP M C Mulani had demanded Rs three crore for not arresting his relatives and that Rs 15 lakhs had already been paid.
