Islamabad, Oct 13: India today lodge a complaint with Pakistan against encroachment by vandals of its consulate building in Karachi for the second time in as many years. Indian High Commission officials here said that they have complained to the Foreign Office after noticing some local people encroaching the Indian consulate building in Karachi, which was closed in 1990s following a diplomatic row between the two countries. "We have noticed some encroachments and lodged a complaint with Pakistan Foreign Office, which promised to act on it", a senior official of the Indian High Commission said. An year ago the Indian High Commission here had lodged a similar complaint after it was brought to its notice attempts to sell the building. The attempts were thwarted after the complaint from India.
Following the fresh complaint by the Indian High Commission, Karachi police has reportedly launched an investigation and sought a fresh set of documents of ownership from the Indian Commission.
The building located in the posh Clifton area in Karachi is owned by the Indian government and it was not in use since both the countries closed each other consulates in Karachi and Mumbai respectively, Indian officials said.
