Chennai, Oct 06: A special court today acquitted former AIADMK minister Indira Kumari, her personal assistant Venkatakrishnan and four others of charges pertaining to securing pecuniary benefits to the tune of Rs 11.42 crore in the distribution of 'free saree, dhoti and school uniforms' to the socio-economic backward persons in the state between 1994-96. Acquitting them, Special Judge R Rajamanickam held that the prosecution had failed to prove charges against them beyond all reasonable doubt. Hence, the benefit of the doubt had to go in favour of the accused. Later coming out of the court hall, Indira Kumari told reporters that her acquittal had “once again proved that the AIADMK government under the chief ministership of Jayalalithaa was corruption free.” Bureau Report
