Kathmandu, Oct 06: A 15-member car expedition from India, for the first time travelling through almost the entire Himalayan range, arrived here after covering a distance of 7,000 kilometres. "We have seen different colours of Himalayas and a variety of ethnicities along the range," said team leader P Matilal, 63, who arrived in the Nepalese capital yesterday.

"We reached a maximum of 18,450 feet altitude at Khadula pass near Ladakh during the journey," he said adding that the members saw how hard the Indian Army is working in Kargil and Ladakh to protect the country from external threats.

Matilal said that the expedition, including four women members, was sponsored by Mahindra and Mahindra and Indian Oil Corporation. The expedition, which entered Nepal from Mahendranagar check-post on October 2, was flagged off from Karakoram in Ladakh, and ends at Kibitho in Arunachal Pradesh.

The team aims at promoting tourism as well as developing people to people contact as the it travels through India, Nepal and Bhutan.

The expedition, travelling on four Mahindra and Mahindra cars, will re-enter India through Kakarbhitta point in east Nepal on October 9. They will travel a distance of 15,000 km within 76 days before returning to Kolkata on December 16. The team visits Chitawan, the famous wildlife sanctuary on October 7 while on their way back.
