Charity match inappropriate for banned Warne, says CA
Melbourne (Australia), Aug 25: Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland said today it would be inappropriate if disgraced cricketer Shane Warne played in a charity match in England later this week.
Melbourne (Australia), Aug 25: Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland said today it would be inappropriate if disgraced cricketer Shane Warne played in a charity match in England later this week.
But Sutherland said CA had agreed to be bound by an arbitration hearing earlier this year which ruled the 33-year-old leg-spinner could play in charity matches while serving a one-year ban for taking a diuretic, or fluid-loss pill.
Sutherland said contracted players must apply to CA to play in charity games, which Warne had yet to do. He has reportedly been selected to play a fundraiser for the lashings cricket club in surrey on Friday.
Warne and his family flew out of Australia on Saturday for London. According to the lashings club web-site, the club's next match is scheduled for Weybridge, Surrey, on Friday.
