New Delhi, July 05: Marking a new chapter in India's multifaceted assistance to Afghanistan, the first batch of 31 senior police officers from the war-ravaged country is arriving here tomorrow on a one-week training course.
The officers will get training on securing of evidence at Chandigarh and will act as trainers after they return to Afghanistan, an external affairs ministry spokesperson told reporters. India alongwith the international community recognises that rebuilding of the afghan security structure which includes the afghan army and police was one of the pre-requisites of peace and stability in that country. Afghan authorities and Germany, the lead country coordinating international assistance in this field, have selected 11 courses for training Afghan police officials in different institutes in India.
New Delhi has committed financial assistance of $ 100 millions to Afghanistan besides announcing a grant of $ 21.5 million for immediate utilisation by Kabul. Medical supplies, blankets and other relief supplies have also been sent to Afghanistan. The spokesperson said a three-month training programme for 20 Afghan diplomats have also been concluded recently at the foreign service institute here.
