The Afghan opposition took Zari district in northern Afghanistan from the Taliban at dawn on Tuesday after an all-night battle, a spokesman for opposition commander Atta Mohammad said.
The opposition already held more than half of Zari, which is 70 kilometers (45 miles) southwest of the key northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif, before an offensive was launched Monday night, spokesman Qari Qudratullah said.

"At around dawn this morning we were able to capture it completely," he said from northern Afghanistan. "Now it is calm, there is no movement from the Taliban side."
Zari is just west of Aq-Kupruk district which has also been at the centre of heavy battles between the opposition and the Taliban this week.
The opposition Northern Alliance is trying to get into position for a major offensive on Mazar-i-Sharif, which is held by the Taliban. Bureau Report
