New Delhi, July 09: With monsoon active and water-logging becoming a major problem, the Delhi government today took a serious note of telecom companies not restoring roads after digging and directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to impose penalties on violators of rules.
Rs 19.41 lakh has already been slapped as penalty on telecom operators for not adhering to provisions of the policy under which a company is bound to restore roads in their original form within seven days, a Delhi government spokesman said.
Delhi chief secretary Shailja Chandra, chairing a meeting, issued a "stern" warning to telecom companies against violating rules, he said.
MCD was asked to intensify surveillance on the digging work and directed to impose penalties on erring companies, the spokesman said.
The companies have been asked to give a master plan about their operations during the next six months and provide an agreement for sharing of ducts, the spokesman said. Bureau Report
