Fifteen bio villages will be established in Uttaranchal over the next three years for commercial production of geranium in the state. The geranium project will be implemented by Uttaranchal's horticulture department with the help of central medicinal and aromatic plants organisation at Lucknow, said Uttaranchal horticulture minister Narayan Ramdas on Friday. Under this project, nuclear genetic material of geranium will be utilised as authorised plant material to conduct experiments on the land of farmers. Entrepreneurs and farmers will be provided necessary equipment and poly grass houses for production of the flowers, the minister said. Farmers will also be provided with necessary expertise, consultancy and training. Two nodal bio villages will be established in Pantnagar and Purda-Baijnath. Testing laboratories will also be established at these places, Ramdas said. Bureau Report
