New Manchester united signing Juan Sebastian Veron will raise the standard of premier league soccer, England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said on Saturday.
Eriksson also said that the England team should aspire to the high standards of Veron's homeland Argentina and world cup winners France.
Eriksson worked with Veron, who set a British record with his 39.34 million transfer this month, at Italian clubs Sampdoria and Lazio.
"He is a complete player," Eriksson told the English football association's website. He can defend, attack, pass, shoot, take free-kicks and is also physically very strong. "I think he's one of the best midfielders that you can find."
"I don't think it's a case of players like (David) Beckham learning from Veron because I am not so sure that Beckham has much to learn."
"But it is undoubtedly good for English football that a player like Veron has come to play here as it will raise the standard of the game in this country."
Eriksson, who has five wins from five games since becoming manager of England, said that the team should look to powerful soccer nations for an edge.
"Looking around the world, I think that there are two teams with a slight advantage over the rest," Eriksson said.
One is Argentina, who have a very good team, and the other is France, who have those special players.
