Mumbai, Oct 05: Iqbal Kaskar, younger brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, and his associate Abdul Sattar Teli, arrested under a stringent law of Maharashtra in a land grabbing case, have been further remanded to judicial custody till October 06. They would be produced tomorrow before the designated Judge A P Bhangale who presides over a court set up under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.

In a related development, the judge directed police to declare on October 6 when they would seek police custody of the two accused for the remaining three-day period. Of the 30-day police remand period, the accused have already spent 27 days in custody. They are now placed in judicial remand. However, in keeping with a high court directive, Iqbal and his associate would be remanded to police custody for three days in near future.

In another development, Iqbal's lawyer Sham Keswani filed an application saying the accused did not nurture a desire to give statement or confession to the cops in police custody. Iqbal was arrested under MCOCA after he was deported from Dubai. He is facing the charges of channelising funds of the underworld into the real estate in Mumbai.

Iqbal and his associate had developed Sara Business Centre and Sahara shopping complex near police commisionerate in south Mumbai with the underworld money. These shopping complexes were illegal and have been attached by the court. According to police, Dawood had pumped a lot of money into the real estate here by purchasing old buildings and converting them into multiplexes. Dawood and his brothers, Noora, Mushtaqeen and Anees are still absconding.
