New Delhi, Nov 20: After movie and small screen icons, it was the turn of cricket star Ashish Nehra to endorse a friend as a candidate in the Delhi Assembly elections. The Delhi paceman today made an appearance at a press conference in favour of Nikhil Nanda, a Samajwadi Party candidate contesting from the Badarpur constituency.
Nehra, however, maintained that his support to Nanda did not reflect his political affiliations.
"Nanda is a family friend and that is why I decided to appeal to the people to elect him. It has nothing to do with the party he represents," Nehra told reporters.
He also said he had no intention of joining politics in the near future.
Nehra, who leaves tonight to join his teammates in Mumbai before their departure for the Australian tour tomorrow, however, refused to take any questions on cricket, saying a political meeting was not the right place for it.
The 31-year-old Nanda is the son of H C Nanda, owner of Sunehari Svendgaard labs, which manufactures Oral-B toothbrushes in India.
