Guwahati, Oct 13: Members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi
Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today staged a dharna at the
Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport demanding
resumption of Air India's Guwahati-Bangkok flight.
Addressing the gathering at the airport, AJYCP president
Apurba Bhattacharjee alleged the centre has always neglected
and deprived the North East of its rightful dues and the
withdrawal of the Guwahati-Bangkok flight was the latest
example of such apathy.
Air India's Guwahati-Bangkok flight was withdrawn from April 16 last in the wake of the outbreak of Sars epidemic and the pilots' strike.
Bhattacharjee said that they have sent a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Air India's CMD demanding that the flight be resumed and more flights are added in the North East sector.
''We have also demanded that flight service for Haj pilgrims be initiated from Guwahati so that these travelers, most of whom are elderly, are saved from considerable hardship'', he added.
He further warned the authorities that if these demands were not met, the AJYCP will be forced to launch a prolonged agitation to ensure that their demands are met.
