Srinagar, Mar 24: Normal life was hit across the Kashmir valley today in the aftermath of the massacre of 24 Kashmiri pandits at Nadimarg and in response to the day-long strike called by Kashmir bar association to protest US-led attack on Iraq. Shops, business establishments and education institutions remained closed and transport remained off the roads, official sources said.
Work in government offices was badly hit as most employees failed to report on duty due to non-availability of transport.
Groups of youth took out rallies raising pro-Islam and anti-US slogans at Maisuma, Basant Bagh, Kokerbazar and adjoining areas in the city, Baramulla, Kupwara and Anantnag.
The protests were peaceful and the demonstrators dispersed when police asked them to.
The impact of the strike enhanced as the news of Nadimarg massacre spread across the valley.
The strike was supported by state secretary of CPI(M) and MLA M Y Tarigami. Bureau Report
