Chennai, Nov 06: The Tamil Nadu unit of BJP today said the DMK owed an explanation to people of the state on its demand for repeal of Pota. "How can DMK which supported the act in parliament, brought to contain terrorism, oppose it now," state unit president C P Radhakrishnan, who returned from a foreign tour, asked.
Rejecting DMK's demand for the repeal of Pota, he told reporters, "Pota cannot be withdrawn just because it is being misused in one state," adding that there could be no ambiguity about the fact that the act was wrongly applied in the MDMK leader Vaiko's case.
The recent ordinance giving more teeth to the Pota review committee would look into the aspects of misuse of the act.
On DMK's stand that it did not have relationship with BJP in Tamil Nadu but would be part of BJP-led NDA at the Centre, he said there was no logic in the stand.
On the party's poll tie-up with other partners for the Lok Sabha polls, he said when other parties were holding their cards close to their chest, none could expect BJP to reveal its stand now itself.
He denied DMK president M Karunanidhi's charge that BJP was supporting AIADMK government in the state assembly and said, "We are acting as a responsible opposition, weighing pros and cons of an issue before resorting to protests like walkouts." Bureau Report
