New Delhi, Aug 12: The Supreme Court today expressed displeasure over reported resignation of justice S P Kurdukar as head of Grievance Redressal Authority (GRA) for Narmada dam oustees in Maharashtra due to non-cooperation of the state and sought to know steps taken to make the GRA functional again. A three-judge bench comprising chief justice B N Kirpal, justice K G Balakrishnan and justice Arijit Pasayat asked the Maharashtra counsel during hearing of a petition by 'Narmada bachao andolon' whether he was aware of the resignation of justice Kurdukar apparently due to non-availability of staff.
When the counsel replied in the negative, the bench said justice Kurdukar was appointed pursuant to a mandamus from the apex court and observed "if the Maharashtra government had complied with the direction, he would not have resigned."
Appearing for NBA, Counsel Prashant Bhushan contended that though the height might have been raised, rehabilitation of dam oustees were not complete which was against the order of the apex court.
