Birmingham, May 26: Button closed right up behind Trulli in the closing laps but could not get by. On the last lap he was slightly baulked by a backmarker he was lapping, but Button said he could not have got by Trulli. "The only reason I was pushing him so hard was to make him make a mistake, clip a wall perhaps but he didn't, he drove very well and I wasn't able to get past," he said.
"On the last corner, you know, everyone says would you have done a last do-or-die move on him, but you know there would be times when he would repay the favour I'm sure if I had driven him off the circuit. So no, you have to have some respect. There was no chance when I could get alongside him at all around the circuit". Button now goes to the Nuerburgring for the European Grand Prix on May 30. Although he says his team is on the rise, he still rates Ferrari's chances for a win.
"I think a lot of people will be surprised at how quick the Ferraris are though. At Monaco they didn't perform as well as people would have thought. When we get to Nuerburgring I think they will be there again, they will be the team to beat and we will see if we can push them as hard as we possibly can, maybe they will make a mistake, we will have a chance".
