New Delhi, Sept 01: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today launched India Disaster Resource Network (IDRN) here to provide critical information to disaster managers about resources and their locations so that they could be accessed immediately during emergencies. Speaking on the occasion, he suggested states should come out with suitable legislation on disaster management. Advani launched the IDRN, a nationwide inventory of resources including equipment and human resources required for emergency response to calamities, through a video conference with Chief Ministers of Assam, Orissa, West Bengal, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Stating the country has been traditionally vulnerable to natural disasters of different kinds, he said the devastating earthquake in Bhuj and the super-cyclone in Orissa underlined the country's vulnerabilities as also the need to build up capabilities for handling disasters.
