Ranchi, Feb 13: Asserting that its chief Sibu Soren would come out "clean", Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Friday questioned the "timing" of the CBI chargesheet against him saying, it was "probably" an offshoot of the party's decision not to join the NDA fold.
"See the timing... for three years the CBI was sitting pretty and now that the elections are round the corner it has filed the chargesheet," JMM's national general secretary Muktinath Upadhya said.
He alleged that "the chargesheet was filed probably because we have refused to join the NDA".
"Soren has been a fighter, and with the party and the people strongly behind him, he will fight it out," he added.
Soren, meanwhile, refused to comment on the development.
CBI on Thursday filed chargesheet against Soren, MP, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The chargesheet was filed before Special Judge Dinesh Dayal after the probe agency conducted investigations for three years.
The CBI had registered three cases against Simon Marandi, Suraj Mandal and Sibu Soren on November 16, 2000 following directions from the then Special Judge Ajit Bharihoke to probe detection of huge balance in the accounts of these three in a Punjab National Bank branch. Bureau Report
