We won`t accept court verdict: Temple trust
In a complete U-turn, the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas (RJN) on Sunday asserted it would not accept court`s verdict on the disputed site in Ayodhya if it went `against religious feelings` of Hindus.
In a complete U-turn, the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas (RJN) on Sunday asserted it would not accept court's verdict on the disputed site in Ayodhya if it went "against religious feelings" of Hindus.
Continuing the flip-flop by VHP, Nyas President Ramchandra Das Paramhans said, "We will maintain status quo on the disputed land till the court judgement. However, if the court judgement goes against our religious feelings, we will not accept it. We will oppose it even if it means shedding blood."
Paramhans said that he had given no written promise to accept the court's verdict but only given an assurance that Ram Temple would be constructed after the acquired land is handed over to the Nyas.
Paramahans' remarks came three days after VHP International President and Nyas managing trustee Ashok Singhal gave a fresh written commitment to the Centre that it will abide by the court verdict on the disputed land.
Singhal's giving the commitment itself represented a somersault just a day after VHP Senior Vice-President Acharya Giriraj Kishore had said no such commitment had been given.
In his statement circulated at a press meet on March 7, Singhal had said, "It has been accepted that in the submission made on February 27, 2002 to the Prime Minister by the Managing Trustee (Singhal) of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas (Trust) that whichever party wins in the court of law, it will be given the disputed place and the necessary amount of adjacent land for use.
Paramhans insisted that the site in question was the birth place of Lord Ram and Babar had no claim on it as he was a foreigner. "Babar was not born here. He was born in foreign land," he said.
He said it would not settle for any programme like "symbolic prayer" on March 15.
On All India Muslim Personal Law Board's rejection of the Kanchi Shankaracharya's proposal to resolve the Aydohya tangle, Paramhans said it would have no impact on RJN's programmes. "Yeh koi maine nahin rakhta (It does not mean anything)," he said. On the March 15 programme, he refused to specify its exact nature saying it was a matter of "strategy" and any leakage would "alert the enemy".
He, however, clarified it would not at least be any "symbolic puja".
"We have not shed blood for puja. This movement is not for simple puja," he said, adding that part is already over.
"I will not enter the Ram Janambhoomi like a thief. When I go there to lay the foundation stone, it will be with full fanfare and band baaja," Paramhans said.
