New Delhi, May 16: Former Prime Minister V P Singh today urged DMK to join the Congress-led government saying "its strength is required within the government". "Myself and Ram Vilas Paswan, both pleaded Karunanidhi to reconsider his party's decision not to join the government at the Centre as DMK strength is needed within the government," Singh told reporters after a 30-minute meeting with the DMK chief who called on him here. Observing that Karunanidhi wanted little more time to decide on the issue, Singh said, "I am quite confident that the time should not be very long. I am hopeful that the decision will be positive".
Former Prime Minister said that Karunanidhi assured full support to the Congress-led government.
LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan and Dayanidhi Maran were also present at the meeting. Singh said he had great joy in receiving Karunanidhi, whom he described as his good friend.
The DMK chief reciprocated the gesture saying he was bound by what Singh says.
Asked how the Cauvery water crisis could be resolved, Karunanidhi said Centre should speak to the Chief Ministers first to find a solution.
