Chennai, Sept 13: For the first time in 18 months after DMK snapped its ties with BJP's Tamil Nadu unit, DMK president M Karunanidhi will meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here today during the latter's one-day visit to the metropolis.
Karunanidhi told reporters today that he would receive Vajpayee at the Corporate Apollo Hospitals when he would call on the ailing Union minister Murasoli Maran to after his health.
The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of reports that DMK might align with Congress for the next Lok Sabha polls. Karunanidhi said he had initially planned to call on the Prime Minister at the Raj Bhavan here but decided to meet him at the hospital after he came to know of his programme to call on Maran.
To a question, Karunanidhi said he would not utilise his friendship with Vajpayee for political purposes. "Politics is different and friendship is different," he said. On the possible outcome of the meeting, Karunanidhi said as it was an "unplanned meeting", the same would be known only after it was over.
Asked whether he would demand repeal of Pota during his meeting with Vajpayee, the DMK chief replied in the negative. Bureau Report
