Assam government will take a mega project for development of roads and drainage in Guwahati spending Rs 50 crore during the current financial year, according to PWD minister Sarat Barkataki.

Mr Barkataki told media persons yesterday that the money from the centre's non-lapsable pool would be received soon. The VIP roads would be made four-lane and lightening system would be modernised, he said. One part of the overbridge, which is under construction on Shillong-Guwahati road at Ulubari here, would be ready for vehicular traffic by June. The construction work of another overbridge at Athgaon over railway gate in the city was in progress and the railways have already released Rs one crore for the project. The state government has also released some amount, he said. The government also has given importance for developments of roads in the entire state and the people would feel it within a year, he added.
