Coimbatore, Oct 19: A little over 2,500 workers of six mills attached to the National Textile Corporation (NTC) here will go on an indefinite strike from today following the failure of the management to settle the bonus issue.
A decision to this effect was taken at an urgent meeting of union leaders of individual units since the management failed to respond to the notices served by them to settle the issue before Oct 17, union sources said.
Though a reconciliation meeting was held before Labour Department officials a few days ago, the management had delayed an early solution, they alleged.
When contacted, management sources said that they were waiting for clearance from the higher officials at Delhi on how to go about the issue.
Meanwhile, another reconciliation meeting was scheduled for Monday next, they said. The indefinite strike would start from the first shift today, at 7.00 am, union sources said.
