Ranchi, May 10: Suspected MCC ultras shot dead former state BJP leader and vice-president of Sri Ram Rekkha Dham Committee Ramesh Sahu and injured former Congress MLA Nirmal Kumar Besra in Jharkhand's Simdega district, police said today. The incident took place when Sahu and Besra were going by a bike to attend a meeting of the Ram Rekha Dham committee yesterday.
The motor-cycle borne ultras suddenly raced towards their bike near Ram Rekhan and opened fire on Sahu who was driving the bike. While Sahu collapsed on the spot, Besra fell down and suffered wounds, the police added. Chief Minister Arjun Munda last night called on Besra who was brought to a hospital here for treatment. Besra is stated to be out of danger.
Congress MLA Niel Tirkey, who along with some local leaders sat on a Dharna soon after the incident, alleged that despite the police and the district administration had been informed that some suspicious elements were roaming around the area since morning, there was no security arrangements on the route to the Dham.
