New Delhi, Dec 23: Congress today condemned the recent killings of innocent people in Jammu and Kashmir and crticised the BJP-led NDA government for "failing" to take effective measures in tackling terrorism in spite of "full backing" of opposition parties. "The BJP-led NDA government in spite of their tall claim has failed to take any effective measures to protect the life and properties of people in Jammu and Kashmir. Recent terrorist violence and killing of innocent people in the state, especially targeting of women and children is condemnable", party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters.
He also expressed condolences to the members of the bereaved families in Surankot in Rajouri district where three young children were killed by militants.
He said safeguarding the frontiers of the country was the primary responsibility of central government but the NDA government inspite of the backing of all political parties should answer why it "repeatedly" failed to protect the lives of people in the state.
Replying to a volley of questions on the responsibility of the state government of which the Congress is a part, he said they were doing their job and denied that there was any confusion about their duties.
Asked about the release of detainees in the state, he said "this entire campaign is far from truth that terrorists are being released by the new government." Bureau Report
