New Delhi, Feb 17: The Jammu and Kashmir government today suggested holding of Parliamentary polls in the militancy-torn state in four phases.
This was conveyed at a meeting state Chief Secretary S S Billowria and Director General of Police Gopal Sharma had with the Election Commission this afternoon.

During the meeting, the officials also apprised the Election Commissioners about the prevailing security situation in the state. They urged the Election Commissioners to hold the polls in four phases, as this would give time for the movement of security personnel.

The EC team was led by Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy. The other two Commissioners - N Gopalaswami and B B Tandon - were also present at the meeting.

Systems adopted during the previous polls were also discussed.
The Election Commission is holding a series of meetings with all the states before announcing the schedule for the Parliamentary polls.
