France, July 04: Former triple Olympic champion Marie-Jose Perec has admitted that she has little hope of competing in the next month's World Championships in Paris.
"I've only got the tiniest of chances," Perec told French sports paper L'Equipe.
The French runner, who won Olympic 400m gold in 1992 and completed a 200m-400m double in Atlanta four years later, has not raced since July, 2000.
She is still suffering from sciatica and revealed that she had needed two anti-inflammatory injections this week to calm the pain.
"I can't see a way out of this. I've tried everything," said the 35-year-old.
But Perec, who fled Sydney ahead of the 2000 Olympics claiming she was being pursued by a stalker, has refused to contemplate retirement.
"It's too early to talk about that yet," she said.
