Kathmandu, Feb 19: Nepal King Gyanendra has appointed Parashu Narayan Chaudhari as chairman of the rajparishad standing committee, the body which decides on matters relating to accession to the throne on a king's death or when the monarch is unable to perform his duties. He replaced outgoing Rajparishad standing committee chairman Keshar Jung Rayamajhi who played a key role while declaring the new heir on the demise of King Birendra after the royal palace massacre of June 1, 2001.
Chaudhari, was elected to panchayat, Nepal's Parliament, after quitting Nepali Congress Party two decades back. He was later appointed a minister by the then King Birendra.
The king also appointed Swami Prapannacharya, Gen (Retd) Satchit Shumsher Rana, Kul Raj Sharma, Ganesh Bahadur Gurung, Chakra Bahadur Shankar and Yagya Prachad Acharya to the post of members of the rajparishad standing committee.
