Jammu, Aug 24: The six militants killed by army while trying to infiltrate into Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on August 22 night were part of a suicide squad of Hizbul Mujahideen, a defence spokesman said here today. The militants, who were killed in an encounter with army in Mendhar sector after crossing over into India, were in combat dresses and four of them had improvised explosive devices strapped on them, he said.
Six AK rifles with 29 magazines and 265 rounds of ammunition, one under barrel grenade launcher with its four grenades, two claymore mines, three programmable time devices, three control switches, 20 detonators and five meters of cordex and safety wires were recovered from them, the spokesman said.
A bottle of poison and Indian and Pakistani currency was also recovered from them, he said.
Four army personnel were also killed and three injured in the encounter with militants which lasted several hours.
Meanwhile, two special police officers, seriously injured in an encounter with security personnel in Reasi town of Udhampur district on August 18, succumbed to injuries yesterday.
