Lucknow, Mar 08: Distancing himself from the happenings of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly last week when a opposition sponsored no confidence motion was defeated, senior leader Lalji Tandon said BJP became party to it out of "compulsion". "Being a coalition partner we were forced to become a party to the developments in the assembly," Tandon, a strong votary of the BSP-BJP coalition in the state said today.
The state urban development minister was questioned by BJP party workers on the government policies that were detrimental to party interests. Senior party leader Shyam Bahadur Misra protested when Tandon mentioned the achievements of the state government on implementing value added tax scheme for the traders saying that the trader community which had remained loyal with BJP so far had to face immense hardships following the government' decision to implement it in the state.
Tandon, however, said traders who were unaware of the details of the said act were opposing it. Tandon's contention that party organsiation was not able to educate the people about the achievements of the government also irked party workers who lodged their protest over it.
During his address, Tandon was continuously interrupted by the workers who were also sceptical of the sugar-cane policy of the government which they said was against the interests of the farmers. Bureau Report
