New Delhi, Aug 12: A meeting of senior BJP leaders, chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, today rejected an opposition demand for submitting a report of the Central Vigilance Commission to Public Accounts Committee, a decision that is unlikely to resolve the on-going impasse in
Parliament.
"There is no such CVC report on Operation Vijay (Kargil). What can be shown," queried BJP chief whip in Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra after the meeting.
The meeting also rejected the opposition demand for the Prime Minister's statement on the issue, he said.
Defence Minister George Fernandes would make a statement in the House on the matter and that could be debated in the house, Malhotra said.
After the debate Fernandes would reply, Malhotra told reporters.
At best the Prime Minister could intervene during the discussion, Malhotra, who is also the party spokesman, said.
The earlier reports of CVC could be shown to the presiding officers of the two houses, he said.
The 90-minute meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, parliamentary affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, Defence Minister and NDA convener George Fernandes, Malhotra and chief whip in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia.
