Aligarh, Nov 04: No untoward incident was reported as curfew, clamped on some old city areas here on saturday in the wake of communal violence, was relaxed today in phases though tension persisted in some localities following bursting of crackers by some people. Curfew was relaxed in three areas of the old city for one-and-a-half-hour each and the relaxation period was incident-free, officials said. No relaxation in curfew was given in other areas as police intensified patrolling in communally-sensitive localities. Some people burst crackers last night leading to tension in curfew-bound areas as these were mistaken for gunfire. Superintendent of police Uday Pratap told mediapersons that there was no evidence yet to suggest that Saturday's violence was pre-planned. Meanwhile, the BJP protested against the arrest of some local party leaders and denial of permission to a party delegation to visit curfew-bound areas. Bureau Report
