Srinagar, Mar 20: Police on Saturday detained State Secretary of CPI(M) and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami along with his supporters for staging an anti-US demonstration in violation of prohibitory orders in Srinagar, official sources said. Tarigami, accompanied by some 30 supporters, appeared at Sher-e-Kashmir park in the heart of the city and started marching towards Lal Chowk to stage a protest demonstration against US for illegal occupation of Iraq, the sources said.

They said police intercepted them at Regal Chowk and took Tarigami and others into preventive custody for violating prohibitory orders in force in the city.

They were taken to Kotibagh police station and lodged there, the sources said.
