Runu Ghosh dismissed from service
New Delhi, Nov 14: Runu Ghosh, a former director of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) who was involved in a 1997 telecom equipment purchase scandal along with former union communications minister Sukh Ram, has been dismissed from service.

minister Sukh Ram, has been dismissed from service.
The dismissal of Runu, who was at present GM (Finance), DoT
cell, Ahmedabad, was ordered by the government following a
departmental inquiry, a CBI official today said.
The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Runu and Sukh Ram in March 1997 for entering into a criminal conspiracy with P Rama Rao, managing director of Advanced Radio Masts (Pvt) Ltd, who gave them a pecuniary inducement of Rs 1.68 crore for awarding a contract for the purchase of 2/15 MARR systems.
According to the chargesheet, the bribe money of Rs 1.68 crore to Sukh Ram and Runu had resulted in a corresponding loss to the DoT.
Special judge V K Jain, in his order of July 15, 2002, had convicted all the accused and Runu was sentenced to two years' RI and a fine of Rs 50,000 in default of which she was to further undergo simple imprisonment of two months.
Following Runu’s conviction, the central government had constituted a departmental inquiry. On the basis of the inquiry report, the dismissal order was served on her.
Her dismissal from service will be a bar for her future employment in a government job, the official said.
