Baghdad, Oct 07: An explosion shook the offices of the Iraqi foreign ministry today and gunfire could be heard in the area, witnesses said. There were no reports of casualties. Ministry employees said it was unclear what caused the explosion. US troops and Iraqi police rushed to the scene.
The ministry is located near the palace complex which serves as the headquarters of the us-led coalition provisional authority.
Security was tightened in the palace area because of demonstration today by about 2,000 former employees of the Iraqi intelligence service who are demanding they get their old jobs back.
