New Delhi, Jan 20: Nearly two decades after the sensational broad daylight killing of the then Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee president H S Manchanda, a city court would pronounce the verdict today. Manchanda was allegedly shot dead by two All India Sikh Student Federation (AISSF) men at a crossing near ITO in the heart of the capital in march 1984 while travelling in his car alongwith four others.

Additional Sessions Judge Dinesh Dayal would decide the fate of accused Virsa Singh and Amarjeet Singh Chawla, who allegedly fired at him from point blank range and fled the scene in a waiting car. Manchanda's driver Mohan Singh, Delhi SGPC vice president Jagdish Singh Lamba, assistant sub inspector Pritam Singh and a security guard Gurcharan Singh were in his car at the time of incident.

The accused were later arrested in the Operation Blue Star when armed forces stormed the Golden Temple at Amritsar. The Indira Gandhi government had reportedly banned AISSF Manchanda had welcomed the decision. Angered by Manchanda's stance, the accused had allegedly decided to eliminate him.
