Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces while five others arrested in different parts of Assam on Wednesday, police said. Acting on specific information about the presence of ULFA's sophisticated 'ENIGMA' group members near Sila Forest in Kamalpur area under Kamrup district, security forces launched a search operation.
During the operations, militants opened fire and attempted to escape under the cover of darkness but the security forces retaliated and in the ensuing encounter a hardcore militant was killed.
Security forces also recovered a .38 revolver, live ammunition and some fired cases from the slain militant.
In another incident, a United Peoples' Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) militant was killed while two others managed to escape following an encounter with police at Ronghoghar village under Diphu police station of Karbi Anglong district.
The police recovered a .38 revolver from the slain militant.
Meanwhile, security forces held four NDFB militants in Sonitpur district along Assam-Arunachal border and recovered four 12 bore guns from their possession.
An ULFA militant was also nabbed from Niz-Zulki village in Nalbari district and some documents were recovered from his possession.
