Mumbai, May 28: On a plea by leading financial institutions, a debt recovery tribunal in Pune has attached immovable properties of Maharashtra government and its two accounts maintained by Reserve Bank of India and State Bank of India to recover Rs 81.67 crores dues from six spinning mills in the cooperative sector. The government's properties and bank accounts have been attached as it had stood as guarantor for the loans to these spinning mills, mostly controlled by politicians.
R Rajendra Yadav, recovery officer, DRT, Pune, on May 26, ordered attachment of central building, collector's office and council hall located in Pune.
Besides, he also ordered attachment of government bank accounts viz deputy inspector general of registrar, deputy collector of stamps and collectors, Mumbai, with RBI and administrative officer, joint registrar, Bandra, Mumbai, with SBI.
The tribunal has directed that notices be served to RBI and SBI asking them not to allow withdrawals from these accounts.
The DRT was hearing applications moved by IDBI, IFCI and ICICI.
The government had stood as guarantor for loans advanced to Vasantdada Cooperative Sut Girani, Maharashtra Cooperative Spinning Mills, Veer Jagdevrao Cotton Utpadak S.S.G ltd, Baramati Cooperative Spinning Mills, Solapur Vikas S.S.G Niyamat and Renuka Adivasi Cooperative Spinning Mills.
