Washington, Oct 31: US Defence Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld has said terrorists appear to be succeeding in
driving some international organisations out of the country
with car-bombings and acknowledge there "aren't short-term
fixes."
The United Nations, whose Baghdad Headquarters was
devastated by a car bombing august 19, announced earlier in
Geneva it was pulling its foreign staff out of the Iraqi
capital to discuss the future of its operations in the
country.
It is keeping staffers in the northern city of Arbil,
however, a spokeswoman said.
The move followed a decision Wednesday by the international committee of the red cross to reduce its staff in Iraq in the wake of a suicide bombing Monday at its Baghdad Headquarters.
"What's my reaction? My reaction is that everyone, every individual and every organisation has to decide for themselves what they're going to do and how they're going to conduct themselves," Rumsfeld said at a news conference here yesterday. Bureau Report
