Jaipur, Oct 01: Putting to rest all controversy regarding railway bifurcation, the tenth North-West Railways zone, with its headquarters at the pink city, was inaugurated by railway minister Nitish Kumar this morning. The East-Central Railways zone with headquarters at Hajipur inaugurated by Kumar later today.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the gazette notifications, for launching both these new zones had been issued by the Centre on June 14 this year.
Of the seven new raliways zones, remaining five zones would start functioning from April 1 next year, he added.
Without referring to the row over bifurcation of the Eastern zone, the railway minister said reorganisation of the existing zones had created doubts as to whether new zones would come up or not.
The decision to create seven additional zones had been taken in the larger interest of the railways to increase its ``efficiency`` as daily workload on the railways had gone up, he maintained.
The minister called upon the railway personnel of the North-West zone to function with their full capacity so that this new zone could the railways financially.
