Srinagar, June 20: Senior Hurriyat Conference leader Mohammad Yousuf Mujahid was today released after more than two years in detention under Public Safety Act as part of PDP-Congress government's policy to set free detenues who were not involved in heinous crimes, official sources said. Mujahid, personal secretary to firebrand Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was released from Ram Munshibagh Police Station in Srinagar where he was shifted last month.

Mujahid, who was arrested on March 17, 2001, served jail term in Kotbalwal Jail in Jammu and Sangroor in Punjab besides in Joint Interrogation Centre in Srinagar. His term under PSA expired six months back. Meanwhile, a Hurriyat spokesman accused state government of deliberately delaying the release of other leaders of the apex body of separatist groups who are in detention in various jails within and outside the state.

The leaders have completed their jail terms and even the courts have ordered their release, the spokesman said and described the delay in their release as "oppressive and inhuman" acts. Bureau Report
