Srinagar, July 03: The All India Muslims Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) today rebuffed PoK-based United Jehad Council telling it to keep off Kashmir and urged the Centre to convene a round table conference in pursuit of a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem. Commenting on the UJC chief Syed Salahuddin's remarks, AIMMM President Syed Shahahbuddin, told reporters here that "I ask UJC to please keep off Kashmir."
"They have no business to tell us to keep off Kashmir," Shahabuddin said when asked to respond to the suggestion of UJC, an amalgam of 16 militant groups in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Shahabuddin, who is here on a stock-taking exercise on the political situation, urged the Centre to initiate an unconditional dialogue with the political leadership, including the Hurriyat, to resolve the Kashmir issue. Observing that the forthcoming elections to the state assembly would not lead to a lasting solution, he suggested that the Centre convene a round table conference comprising all the significant political formations in the state.
"Such a conference will throw up all possible options and pave the path for a frank exchange of views and the emergence of a feasible consensus," he said, denying allegations that his visit to the Kashmir was undertaken at the behest of New Delhi. "We have come here on our own to break the ice in the present stalemate in Kashmir and to reduce the level of violence," he added.
